Situated in Whitehall, about 100 metres from Trafalgar Square are the barracks of the Royal Horseguards. In the square at the back of the building the Queen and the rest of the countrywatch the trooping of the Colour in honour of the Queens birthday. The entrance from Whitehall is guarded during the day by two mounted horsemen in full ceremonial gear. These are changed at regular intervals. The gates to the parade ground and St James Park behind it remain open and accessible by the public until approx 5:00pm daily. The change of the horseguards as well as having your photo taken standing nest to the horses is a great tourist draw. This is a must see sight on your way from Trafalgar Square down Whitehall to the House of Parliament and Big Ben.
